Cairo: Eid Al Fitr shopping is hitting a fever pitch across Saudi Arabia as the Islamic feast, which follows the holy month of Ramadan, approaches. The start of Eid Al Fitr will be determined tonight, depending on the sighting of the new moon of the Shawwal month.

Gold items are particularly popular in the Jazan region of southwestern Saudi Arabia as people prepare for the occasion. Residents are shopping for jewellery such as necklaces, bracelets, and rings, either for personal use or to gift to mothers and wives—a cherished social tradition in Jazan, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The region's gold markets are seeing a surge in activity as Eid approaches, leading to higher prices compared to the rest of the year. Workers at gold markets note a sharp increase in demand during the last 10 days of Ramadan, especially in the three days before Eid Al Fitr. These days are considered peak season for gold sales.

Shoppers are mainly interested in purchasing 21-carat gold due to its high quality and reasonable pricing, making it easier to sell or exchange later. With many market-goers flocking to find the most attractive and valuable gold designs, both for personal use and as gifts for loved ones, the demand remains strong.
