Abu Dhabi: Saudi police have arrested 11 Saudi men and six of Sudanese nationality for allegedly stealing cars, dismantling them and selling their parts, police said.

The suspects, in their 30s and 40s, also allegedly stole and sold items from rest houses, farms, and buildings under construction, Major Khaled Al Kreidis, spokesperson of the Riyadh Police, said.

Intensive investigations conducted by police led to the arrest of the members of the gang, in a yard they used to break up stolen vehicles and compress metals. When arrested, they were in possession of some of the parts, which they had removed from the stolen cars, Major Al Kredis said.

During interrogation they allegedly admitted to committing several crimes in Riyadh and other neighbouring provinces, using the same modes operandi, police said.

The value of the stolen items is estimated at SR878,000, police added.

The suspects have been handed over to the Public Prosecution for further questioning and trial, police said.
