Residents urged to take precautions as kingdom braces for an extended cold wave
Dubai: The Turaif governorate in Saudi Arabia’s Northern Borders Region has recorded the lowest temperature in the country, with the mercury plunging to minus two degrees Celsius, according to the latest weather report from the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).
The cold spell, which has gripped much of the Kingdom, is expected to persist, with forecasters warning of freezing conditions and the potential for frost in the northern regions.
The NCM issued a statement cautioning that Turaif will remain under the influence of an intense cold air mass, with minimum temperatures anticipated to drop further, ranging between zero and minus three degrees Celsius.
The extreme cold, rare for the Kingdom, has already left a visible mark, as frost crystals were seen accumulating on plants early Monday morning.
Residents across the affected regions have been urged to take necessary precautions against the bitter weather.
The NCM also warned that horizontal visibility may be significantly reduced due to dense fog in the early morning hours, particularly in the southern parts of the Eastern Province.
