Abu Dhabi: An Ethiopian man was arrested for allegedly trafficking and distributing narcotics on social media, said spokesperson for the Saudi General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC), Capt. Mohammed bin Khaled Al Najidi.

The suspect was identified and caught with a quantity of hashish in his possession, after a video posted on social media promoted the contraband, Al Najidi said.

The man was remanded in custody pending moving to Public Prosecution for further interrogation and trial, police said.

Al Najidi confirmed the GDNC’s determination to follow-up on all drug-related criminal activities, as well as to track down people involved in the illegal trade.

He urged members of the public to report anyone involved in drug trafficking by calling the toll-free number 995.
