Manama: Dammam Airports Company (DACO) has denied reports that the King Fahad International Airport in Damman was selling alcohol after a short video clip circulated on social media purporting to show that.
DACO Chief Executive Officer Turki A. Al Jawini warned over elusive social media accounts dedicated to spreading lies in the country.
“The case has been referred to the legal department at the company and our lawyers are working on the legal measures that we will take,” he said.
Saudi media said that the video showing boxes of liquor being stocked was in fact from a bust by Saudi customs officers who foiled an attempt to smuggle 8,200 banned bottles and cans into the kingdom.
The officers at King Fahad Causeway, the 25-km terrestrial link between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, were carrying a routine inspection of a truck when they discovered the liquor and beer.
“They were carefully concealed in different parts of the truck, but our offices discovered them,” Fahad Sulaiman Al Belaihid, the head of customs, said.
“The seized items included cans and bottles under various names and sizes.”
