Dubai: A total of 58 businesses have been closed while 93 others were fined for breaching precautionary and preventive measures taken to combat the spread of COVID-19, Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province municipality has announced.

The closures came as part of 1,438 field inspection tours to monitor anti-coronavirus precautionary measures.

Saudi competent authorities conducted the checks to ensure that the necessary protocols were in place to protect the health and safety of Saudi nationals and residents.

Violations included crowding in malls and commercial centers, and failing to use the “Tawakkalna” application to access public places.

Authorities said they had received 59 complaints concerning businesses breaching health measures.

The Eastern Province called on citizens to report violations on the toll-free number 940.
