Cairo: Saudi police have arrested two people in the capital Riyadh involved in promoting counterfeit money on social media, the Saudi news agency SPA reported, quoting a security official.

The duo were proven involved in pursuing the illegal business in complicity with a third person living outside the kingdom, spokesman for the Riyadh region Col. Chaker Al Tuwijiri said.

The arrested people are a Saudi man and a Jordanian national.

Police found in their possession nearly 500,000 counterfeit US dollars, the official added.

"They were arrested. All legal procedures have been taken to refer them to public prosecution," Col. Al Tuwijiri said.
