Manama: Saud Al Faisal, the Saudi foreign minister, is convalescing in Los Angeles, the Saudi foreign ministry has said.

“He is in good health and he is right now in Los Angeles where he will spend some weeks to recover before returning home,” the foreign ministry said, denying reports about his death.

According to the ministry, the 72-year-old minister had followed up several political and administrative issues with senior ministry officials over the telephone.

On September 7, Al Faisal left the Saudi hospital where on August 11 he successfully underwent a minor surgery to remove an intestinal obstruction caused by a previous operation, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Reports about his death in late August prompted a denial from the foreign ministry and a photograph of the prince sitting with fellow Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) foreign ministers prior to their official meeting was published on September 2 by SPA.
