Riyadh and 15 cities to display environmental artwork, inspired by fireflies and stars

Dubai: More than 15 cities across Saudi Arabia are gearing up for a series of festivities to commemorate Saudi Founding Day, with events scheduled from February 20 to 23 celebrating the Kingdom’s rich heritage and history.
In Riyadh, the capital is undergoing a visual transformation as part of a large-scale initiative led by the municipality, with over 8,000 flags adorning key landmarks. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Culture is spearheading a diverse lineup of cultural and historical programs, paying tribute to the Kingdom’s establishment three centuries ago.
Beyond Riyadh and AlUla, the celebrations will extend across the country, turning the occasion into a nationwide homage to Saudi Arabia’s enduring legacy.
One of the highlights of the festivities is the Al Sarraya Festival in AlUla, set to take place from February 21 to 23.
The immersive cultural event will transport visitors through Saudi Arabia’s founding journey, featuring interactive exhibits and activities that showcase the nation’s origins.
Instead of traditional fireworks, the festival will feature a unique environmental artwork, inspired by fireflies and stars, offering an eco-friendly visual spectacle.
In Riyadh, the Strong Ties event at Boulevard City will run from February 21 to 23, aiming to promote unity through an interactive community art installation. Visitors will participate in the creation of a sculpture symbolizing togetherness and national identity.
Meanwhile, Memory of the Land, an event spanning multiple cities from February 21 to 23, will spotlight the history of the first Saudi state.
As part of the Year of Handicrafts 2025 initiative, a dedicated Handicrafts Zone will showcase traditional crafts, offering visitors a chance to explore the Kingdom’s artisanal heritage and its deep-rooted craftsmanship.
Adding to the spectacle, drone shows will illuminate the skies over several Saudi cities on February 22, alongside fireworks displays set to light up 15 locations across the Kingdom, creating a synchronised visual tribute to the nation’s legacy.
Riyadh will further commemorate the occasion with a Foundation Day Orchestra performance at the King Fahd Cultural Center on February 22 and 23. The event will feature the Saudi National Orchestra and Choir, blending music with visual storytelling to bring the Kingdom’s history to life through a fusion of traditional and contemporary compositions.
Organised in collaboration with various government agencies, the celebrations underscore Saudi Arabia’s commitment to preserving and promoting its cultural identity, while showcasing the nation’s history on a global stage.
