Manama: More than SR10,000 are still missing after they were blown away from a cash machine by strong gusts.

A report said that employees working for a money transfer company in Aseer in southwestern Saudi Arabia were about to feed an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) at a local bank when strong winds blew bank notes away.

The employees called security patrols and the police in the area to help them recover the money, but their attempts to chase the bills flying and tumbling in the wind failed to retrieve more than SR10,000, local news site Sabq reported on Tuesday.

Readers blamed the employees for not taking the necessary precautions when they saw the strong wind.

“It was very obvious that the wind would disrupt their plans and they should have been more careful,” Southern posted.

Others said they doubted the claims by the employees, insisting that the cash was usually inside a box and there was no reason to open it.

“I am sure the investigations will prove there is something foul in this incident,” Fayez posted. “I personally believe it is an attempt to take advantage of the wind to concoct a story and explain why the money was missing.” He said.

Other readers said they prayed the missing money would end up with people who needed financial assistance.

“I am praying that the notes flew away and landed near needy people who will put them to good use,” Half-Moon said. “They will be thankful for their good fortune.”
