Manama: Hundreds of grieving relatives, friends and sympathetic strangers have come together at a mosque in the Saudi capital Riyadh to pray for the five siblings who died in a tragic car crash.

The three brothers, Mohammad, Ahmad and Sultan, and two sisters, Asma and Afnan, were returning home from the UAE on Saturday at the end of a school break when the head-on accident with a heavy truck occurred, a few kilometres after the family, travelling in two separate cars, went through the Batha border crossing post.

The father, Dr Esmail Al Bashri, the president of the University of Jouf, was at the mosque and the graveyard for the emotional funeral, local news site Sabq reported.

He reportedly had a breakdown after he witnessed the tragic accident from his car that was following the first vehicle as the family was returning home ahead of the reopening of the schools and universities following a 10-day break.

Mourners at Umm Al Hamam cemetery in Riyadh offered their condolences and support to the father distraught with grief, but accepting fate through remarkable resilience.

Messages of sympathy and prayers flooded the social networks as soon as the tragic news about one of the worst road accidents spread throughout the country.
