Kuwait City: After being stuck abroad for more than a year, around 2,100 teachers will be coming back to Kuwait by August, local media reported.
The Ministry of Education is coordinating with the Ministry of Interior and Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to start arranging their entry process.
The procedures for their return needs to be in coordination with all the parties involved, especially those whose residency permits have expired while outside the country. The Ministry of Interior is also coordinating with the Kuwaiti embassies in each country to hand out the visas in person to the teachers.
No salaries
As for their salaries, a source told the newspaper that based on instruction from the Civil Service Bureau no salaries will be calculated for this period especially since the Bureau considered cutting them off from work as a compelling excuse, therefore, they are not entitled to receive their salaries. In addition, the source added that the time they were stranded abroad will not be added to their work days and thus not counted in their end of service.
The plan to return teachers stuck abroad coincides with the Ministry’s plan to resume in-person learning in September.
