Distinguished Saudi poetess dies

Literary and media figures paid rich tribute to the poetess who made history by becoming the first woman to reach an advanced stage in a highly challenging competition

Manama: Mastoora Al Ahmadi, the Saudi poetess who reached the semi-finals of The Million's Poet competition last year, has died.

According to her family, Mastoora died on Sunday evening in a hospital in Madinah from a sudden illness she suffered ten days ago.

Literary and media figures paid rich tribute to the poetess who made history by becoming the first woman to reach an advanced stage in a highly challenging competition in which contestants have to keep up with famous poems in rhyme and content in what is known in Arabic poetry as "Mujarah", one of the ancient literature forms in Arabia.
