Cairo: Saudi police have arrested a man for violating a ban on barbers’ service, Saudi media reported Wednesday.

The Saudi man appeared in an online video violating the ban and bringing a barber to his residence in Al Qassim region, a spokesman for the local police said.

Saudi authorities have closed down barber shops as part of a series of precautions aimed at limiting the spread of the novel coronavirus. So far, a total of 1,563 virus cases including 10 deaths have been reported in Saudi Arabia.

The violator of the ban on the barber shops is a Saudi man in his 40s, according to the police official.

“He was arrested and procedures have been taken to refer him to public prosecution to apply the disciplinary penalty against him,” added the official without elaborating.

Saudi authorities have taken over recent weeks stringent measures against the virus. They include suspending international and domestic flights as well as Umrah trips to Mecca and Medina. The kingdom last week started enforcing a nighttime nationwide curfew.
