Dubai: Saudi Arabia announced that 601 people have tested positive for COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, an 88 per cent drop in the daily reported cases.

This brings the kingdom’s overall coronavirus cases to 325,651, Health Ministry spokesperson Dr. Mohammad Al Abdul Ali said during today’s press conference.

Twenty-eight more people have died due to complications caused by the virus in the past 24 hours, taking the overall death toll to 4,268.

The total number of recovered cases in Saudi Arabia climbed to 302,870 as 1,034 people have fully recovered, pushing the recovery rate to 93 per cent, Dr. Al Abdul Ali said.

“We are witnessing a remarkable decline in coronavirus cases; however we must continue to abide by precautionary measures and maintain our success in controlling the virus outbreak. We are optimistic that the trend of coronavirus will continue to fall greatly, the spokesperson emphasised.

Active cases also continued to drop sharply as they reached 18,513 including 1,326 critical, he said

Jeddah reported the highest daily-detected cases with 53, followed by Hufof and Mecca with 44 each and Riyadh 40. The rest of the cases were scattered in different cities and governorates across the kingdom, Dr. Al Abdul Ali added.
