Cairo: Saudi police arrested an Asian expatriate for having physically abused his wife and kicked her out of the house in the south-western region of Jizan, online Saudi newspaper Sabq has reported.

The mother of three had been brutally ill-treated by her husband who had beaten her up, burned her body with boiling water and searing before he shaved her hair and forced her out of the house, the report added, citing unidentified sources.

The abuser was arrested and referred to public prosecution.

The woman, who has sustained serious burns and injuries, is reportedly without a shelter.

In recent years, Saudi Arabia has intensified efforts against domestic violence.

This week, the country's Human Rights Commission has urged the public to report any case of family violence. "If the case requires urgent intervention, the police will be alerted," the commission said on its Twitter account.
