Abu Dhabi: The Riyadh Police have arrested four Saudi men for their suspected involvement in a series of jewellery thefts.

“The police received several reports from victims informing that jewellery was stolen from their shops. Through follow-up investigations, officers from Riyadh Police established the identities of the men and arrested them,” Major Khaled Al Kreidis, spokesperson of the Riyadh Police, said.

Based on preliminary investigations, the men were believed to have been involved in 47 similar thefts in Riyadh, Mecca, Eastern Province, Hail and Qassim and stolen jewellery was estimated at SR300,000, police said.

The police seized in the suspects’ possession the car used to carry out their crimes, after they changed its registration plates to mislead the security authorities, and they were found in possession of drugs, police said.
