2 expat employees sacked over anti-Saudi posts

Cairo: An insurance company in Saudi Arabia has dismissed an expatriate employee over publishing offensive posts against the kingdom on social media.

The company whose name was not disclosed said in a statement that it had received online notifications regarding offensive comments posted by one of its employees.

The company added that it had immediately dismissed the employee and reported the incident to security authorities. It revealed that the employee holds Arab nationality.

“The company confirms its commitment to ensuring that all its employees abide by the regulations and professional ethics that represent its values, and its full commitment to zero-tolerance with anything that might harm the systems, the kingdom, or its leadership,” Okaz quoted the statement as saying.

In a separate incident, a health association in Saudi Arabia announced the termination of an expatriate employee’ contract for likewise having made offensive posts against the kingdom and its policies on social media.

“We express our strong condemnation and categorical rejection of his behaviour,” it added, according to the same paper.

The Saudi competent authorities were notified of the incident.

Saudi Arabia is home to a large community of expatriates who make up around 44% of its total 35.3 million, according to recent statistics.
