Doha: Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP) has won a bid to host the 2014 International Association of Science Parks (IASP) World Conference in Doha. Qatar was chosen by an IASP general assembly ballot on Tuesday in this year’s conference taking place in Tallinn, Estonia.

QSTP won the bid with 70 per cent of the votes of the 338 members, beating Poland and Russia.

Qatar’s bid was supported by a multimedia campaign targeting the IASP members. The campaign identified Qatar “as a country on a clear path to an advanced society that maintains a harmony between economic growth, social development and environmental protection by developing human capital through science, research and education,” according to report published by IASP.

Qatar’s win makes it the first Arabic and Middle Eastern nation to win the IASP.
