Dubai: Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health has confirmed 440 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of infections to 5,448, Qatar News Agency reported on Sunday.

The ministry also announced the recovery of 8 COVID-19 patients, bringing the total cases of recovery in Qatar to 518 cases.

Most of the new cases were migrant workers who were found to have mixed with infected cases, while the lowest percentage of the new cases came from citizens and residents who had contracted the virus from family members. New infected cases have been isolation and are receiving necessary medical care.

The Ministry of Public Health stated that the noticeable increase in the number of new cases is due to several reasons, including the fact that the spread of the virus has started to enter into the peak stage, (the highest wave that affects the country), which may continue to increase for a period before it starts to decline.

It is also due to the steady increase in efforts of the Ministry of Public Health and its medical teams to track the transmission chains of the coronavirus and conduct intensive and proactive investigations. This has contributed to the early detection of many cases and reducing the spread of the virus.
