Dubai: Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health has announced another 1,637 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, taking the overall number of confirmed infections in the country to 35,606, Qatar News Agency reported on Tuesday.

Some new cases are related to travelers who came to Qatar from coronavirus-hit countries and others related to contacts, including citizens and residents. Some other new cases were reported among expatriate workers.

The new cases have been put in quarantine and are receiving the necessary medical care.

No new deaths have been reported today, keeping the death toll at 15. Meanwhile, 735 COVID-19 patients have recovered fully, taking the total number of recovered patients to 5634.

Qatar has been ramping up its efforts to test more people, and has conducted a total of 166,182 coronavirus tests, after 4,487 new tests over the past 24 hours.

A total of 163 COVID-19 patients are now receiving intensive care, after 24 more patients were admitted to the ICU in the past 24 hours.

The first coronavirus case in Qatar was confirmed on February 27, but the number of cases began to rise more steeply from mid-March onwards, beginning with the announcement of 238 new cases in a single day on March 11.
