Dubai: Qatar has confirmed 1,632 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 32,604, according to the Ministry of Public Health.

The ministry has announced that the total number of recoveries had gone up to 4,370, leaving 28,219 active cases currently undergoing treatment, while 165 COVID-19 patients are still in intensive care.

No new deaths were reported today, keeping the death toll at 15.

The country has been intensifying its efforts to contain the spread of the virus; it has tested more than 157,570 people so far.

The first coronavirus case in Qatar was confirmed on February 27, but the number of cases began to rise more steeply from mid-March onwards, beginning with the announcement of 238 new cases in a single day on March 11.

Many of the cases are believed to be from crowded labour accommodations for migrant workers, according to media reports.
