Manama: Around 1,900 people have died in road accidents in Qatar between 2001 and 2010, according to Traffic Department figures.
The highest number of the 1,894 deaths occurred in 2006 when 270 people were killed in road accidents.
According to the statistics, the number of deaths resulting from road accidents in 2009 (223) and 2010 (228) decreased compared with 2008 when 230 persons were killed, Qatari daily Gulf Times reported.
The number of severe injuries has also decreased from 570 in 2008, the highest in the decade, to 544 in 2010 and 546 in 2010.
According to the new statistics, there were 34,268 court cases relating to injury or death.
