Manama: Health authorities in Qatar have launched an investigation into the aftermath of a tragic accident that claimed the lives of a mother and her two daughters.

The authorities said that they would announce the results of the probe after it is completed and that they did not wish to make statements now, Arabic daily Al Arab reported on Monday.

Relatives of the three Qatari women said that the rescue teams were slow in reaching the scene of the accident and that attempts to secure a helicopter to airlift the injured had failed.

Two other women and two children were injured in the accident on Friday on the road to Zubara, relatives said.

However, they denied claims that speed was the cause of the deaths and injuries.

"The three cars in which we were riding were moving at a normal speed," a relative told Al Raya daily. "The problem was that following the accident, the rescue people took a long time to arrive to the scene," he said.
