Manama: The Kerala expatriate community in Qatar is releasing a short film for audiences in Qatar this week.

The film, Nanama Niranja Umma (Virtues of a Mother), is in Malayalam and will premiere in Doha on Thursday.

With a storyline focusing on how some people mistreat their aged parents, the film aims at educating the viewers about the importance of supporting their parents, especially in their old age, Qatari daily Qatar Tribune reports on Tuesday.

Ashraf Peringadi, the film director, told reporters in Doha that the purpose of the film was to draw people's attention towards the way some parents were being treated.

He said home cinema, a film with lots of message, has been gaining significant attention.

"Home cinema is a new trend in the visual storytelling arena that takes a distinctive path between the theatre cinema and tele films," he said, quoted by the daily.

President of Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) K.M. Varghese said that though there are many challenges in producing a film in Doha, the home cinema initiative has been a huge success.

Major parts of the film were shot in Kerala and the expatriates in Qatar have played an active role in it.

Major actors in the film include Tony, Shanthakumari, Neenakurup, VV Prakash, Alikkoya, Musthafa and Prakash Payyanakkal.
