Cairo: Religious authorities in Qatar and Bahrain have said Eid Al Fitr will begin on Thursday in both countries.

A moon-sighting committee at the Qatari Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs announced that Wednesday is the 30th and last day of the month of Ramadan and that Thursday is the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal, marking the first day of the Eid, the Qatari news agency QNA reported.

Similarly, Bahrain’s Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, said that the crescent of Shawwal was not spotted Tuesday night, meaning that Wednesday is the 30th day of Ramadan and Thursday the first day of the Eid.

Qatar and Bahrain join the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait in celebrating the first day of the Eid on Thursday. Other Arab countries including Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Libya also announced that the Eid will begin Thursday.
