Dubai: Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health reported on Wednesday 153 cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing the total number of infections to 2210 Qatar News Agency reported.

The ministry announced the recovery of 28 infected people, taking the total number of recovered patients to 178.

The total cases include the previously announced six deaths. The newly diagnosed cases were detected upon screening those who had been in contact with the previously announced cases and others who are linked to travel and returning from coronavirus hit countries.

The ministry urged the public to adhere to preventive measures and maintain a safe distance from others to reduce their chances of contracting the virus.

Meanwhile, Qatar on Tuesday issued bonds worth $10 in tranches of 5, 10, and 30 years to raise cash in the debt markets against a backdrop of low oil prices and market uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier in the month, Qatar issued $12 billion worth of bonds in global financial markets in three tranches. The first tranche included five-year bonds worth $2 billion and the second tranche worth $4 billion for 10 years, while the third tranche is for 30 years and worth $6 billion.
