Muscat: Three fraudsters have been arrested for cheating residents with a scam known as "doubling the money", according to the Royal Oman Police (ROP) press release.

An Arab and two Africans were caught in Al Khuwair district where they were duping people into believing that they could convert plain paper into money.

During their raid, the police found bundles of paper, chemicals and some dollar bills.

The ROP raided the house after a complaint by a resident that the swindlers had demanded 26,000 Omani riyals from him with a promise to double the same.

The ROP advised the residents to report any such activities by suspicious persons on the hotline 9999 or to the nearest police station.
