Seven Emiratis and an Omani child were killed in a head-on collision in eastern Salalah

Muscat: Seven Emiratis and an Omani child were killed on the spot in a head-on collision in eastern Salalah near Mughsail Blowholes yesterday evening, Saeed Al Badawi, a spokesperson for the Royal Oman Police’s Public Relations Department, told Gulf News.

According to police, the dead were members of a family from Al Ain. The accident occurred on the highway when the car  collided with a trailer also carrying a car. 

Two of the dead were identified as Obaid Saeed Al Kaabi and Mariam Gareeb Rashid. Another child survived the crash. 

Also yesterday, three Omanis were killed and five seriously injured when two cars collided in Ibri. On Sunday, three people died

in traffic accidents in Oman. A driver of a saloon car died on the spot when he lost control due to speeding and hit a cliff.

In another accident in Qalhat in the east, two vehicles collided while overtaking, killing two and injuring three people, taking the death toll to 14 in two days. 

Since the nine-day Eid break started on August 15, 34 people have been killed in the central region, linking Muscat and the rest of the country with southern region, and in the Dhofar region.
