Muscat: Oman’s Meteorology department (MET Oman) has shared weather alerts today on the continuation of thunderstorms and rains in some regions of Oman, including the mountainous Hajar region. Active formation of rain clouds was observed in the alert that was shared earlier.

The met department alert also indicated high waves on Arabian Sea coast, of up to one and half metres, and impaired horizontal visibility due to fog and precipitation.

This is the time of sporadic relief rains in some regions of Oman, including the Hajar mountain regions of which the famous Jabal Akhdhar range is part of. Rainfall is also expected in the southern region of Dhofar.

Some parts of the capital city wore a dull look since yesterday morning with overcast clouds. Rains and thundershowers were reported in the interior towns of Shinas, Liwa and Izki.

Several popular social media handles, including weatherOmanya, posted images and videos about the rain-fed roads at different places around Oman. Ibri, a town in the north-western part of Oman, even reported a hailstorm.

With the hot days having started in Oman, the weather change brought some cheer to an otherwise locked down state that Oman is currently in, with a partial curfew in force from 9pm until 4am.
