Dubai: The new Sultan of Oman, Haitham Bin Tariq Al Said, confirmed during his inauguration ceremony, Saturday, that he would follow the line drawn by late Sultan Qaboos in foreign relations, maintaining friendly relations with all countries.

In a televised speech right after the funnural service, Oman TV aired a speech for the new Sultan Haitham Bin Tariq Al Said.

In addition, he affirmed his adherence to maintaining non-interference in the affairs of neighboring countries, stressing the advancement of the process of cooperation between the countries of the Cooperation Council.

On Arab affairs, he affirmed his continued support to the Arab league and the achievement of its goals, and to distance this region from conflicts.

The new Sultan stressed his full commitment to moving the nation forward, following the footsteps of Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed in the development and progress of the Sultanate.

Haitham bin Tariq, on Saturday pledged to follow the non-interference foreign policy of the late Sultan Qaboos that made the kingdom an important regional broker.

"We will follow the path of the late sultan," Haitham said in his first public speech after being sworn in as sultan.

He expressed support for "our country's foreign policy of peaceful living among nations and peoples... and not interfering in the internal affairs of others, respecting nations' sovereignty and international cooperation."

Sultan Haitham Bin Tariq Al Said took the oath before the Council of Oman this morning as the new Sultan of Oman, according to state media.

Sultan Haitham Bin Tariq Al Said was chosen by Sultan Qaboos to succeed him, as the family opened his will this morning following established protocol in Oman.
