Muscat: The Ministry of Interior has stripped citizenship of ten Omanis for holding dual citizenship.
A ministry official told Gulf News that Omani Nationality Law issued in 2014 prohibits citizens from holding another nationality, unless approved by a royal decree.
As per the law issued by a royal decree, Omanis are not allowed to waive their nationality to obtain another one without fulfilling all commitments to Oman.
Those stripped of Omani citizenship are Abdullah Al Wahshi, Nasser Al Habsi, Fatma Al Harasi, Mariam Al Alawi, Masoomah Gulam, Mahmoud Al Durei, Adhari Al Busaidi, Hebah Al Muqaimi, Aisha Al Shehi and Masoomah Al Qasimi.
Six of those have obtained Kuwaiti citizenship, while the rest obtained Saudi, Emirati, New Zealand and American citizenship.
The law states that Omani citizenship can be revoked in cases of the holder having connections with organisations that can harm the interest of the country, or if he or she works for a hostile country that act against Oman.
