Muscat: COVID-19 hasn’t dampened the spirits of citizens and residents in Oman celebrating the country’s 50th National Day.
Oman celebrates its National Day on November 18 and the capital is wearing a festive look with colourful lighting adorning the entire length of the Sultan Qaboos highway.
The most awaited illumination is in front of the Royal Opera House whichalways brings traffic to a halt with. Apart from the median lightings, offices lining the Sultan Qaboos highway as well as those in the inside lanes come alive with festive lighting.
New look
Muttrah souq, the corniche area and the surrounding forts have sported a very colourful look since last week. With the weather playing a good sport with a lingering cool breeze, people who brave a stroll outside were many to see the illuminated new look of their city while adhering to social distancing.
Sara Al Balushi, a resident of the old town of Muscat says that this is time she waits for every year. “November is my favourite month. It brings in the cooler weather with it and brings also my country’s National Day. I am so happy to see people taking the necessary precautions to beat COVID-19 as they brave this virus to celebrate this important day. It is a beautiful view from my room to see the arching of the corniche and with the lit-up look now, it is even prettier.”
