Muscat: Four Asians were arrested by police on charges for possessing 96 capsules of heroin, according to a press release from Royal Oman Police (ROP) on Saturday.

The Department of Anti Narcotics raided the house of the alleged drug dealers with the help of the Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigation.

The police also found that one of the accused had entered the country illegally.

All four accused have been sent to prosecutors.

The police team also apprehended four suspects in the northern parts of the country last week for possessing hashish, heroin and opium.

"The police received information that there was an attempt to smuggle drugs through the sea route," ROP said in a press release.

An Omani citizen from the town of Shinas was caught with heroin and hashish. The suspect admitted that he had received 54 kilograms of hashish, in addition to two kg of heroin from two people from neighbouring countries.

The suspect said that they were assisted in transfer of drugs by another unnamed citizen.
