Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) have arrested five Pakistanis suspected of robbing a senior citizen at knife point.

“The Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations have nabbed five Pakistanis on the charges of theft and abuse,” a ROP spokesman said.

The arrested Pakistani nationals are accused of threatening the senior citizen, who has not been identified, with knife and looting cash from his house in the old section of Muttrah district in Muscat.

“We have recovered 488,000 Omani riyals from the accused,” the spokesman said.

One of the accused was caught at the airport while trying to flee while his four accomplices were arrested from different locations in the country.

The case has been referred to the public prosecution for further investigation before it comes to court.

Meanwhile, ROP has urged residents not to keep large amounts cash at home or in their vehicles in an attempt to prevent such crimes.
