Muscat: The number of arrivals in Oman ever since the institutional quarantine was made mandatory has reached more than 11,000 people, it was revealed by Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed Al Shamsi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Development and Head of the Relief and Shelter Sector.

In a statement to Oman News Agency, Al Shamsi said that about 10 per cent of the mentioned figure were Omanis. The mandatory quarantine for all those arriving into Oman was announced by Oman’s Supreme Committee on February 10, to curb the spread of the new strain of Corona virus.

Subsequent to the announcement, certain private staff accommodation premises were permitted to allow their staff arriving into Oman on mandatory quarantine in their own staff quarters, subject to compliance of stipulated requirement.

Highest number

The number of hotels and hotel apartments, providing quarantine facilities in Oman reached 482 with the Governorate of Muscat recording the highest number with 200 hotels.

Al Shamsi also indicated that 33 private institutions have been approved for institutional isolation in their staff accommodation premises subject to compliance of health requirements procedures.

These procedures were under the supervision of a committee comprising of members from the Relief and Shelter Sector and the Royal Oman Police. Strict enforcements and regulatory checks of the approved quarantine institutions are conducted from time to time by the Ministry of Health.
