Dubai: Oman announced Sunday, January 12, as an official holiday for both public and private sector employees to commemorate the anniversary of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik's accession to power.

The holiday marks five years since Sultan Haitham assumed leadership of the Sultanate on January 11, 2020, following the death of Sultan Qaboos bin Said. The smooth and peaceful transition of power was widely admired globally.

Born on October 11, 1955, in Muscat, Sultan Haitham received his early education at Sa’idiyya School before continuing his studies in Lebanon and later in the United Kingdom. He attended the University of Oxford at Pembroke College, where he completed his higher education.
