Muscat: Oman has pledged $100 million in aid to Yemen in the latest of a series of positive gestures to its neighbour on its southwestern border.

According to a report in the local Oman Arabic daily, the grant represents the sultanate’s contribution to pledges announced by a number of countries at a Donors’ Conference held in London in 2006.

Oman’s contribution will be managed by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, the paper quoted Nabeela Mujahid, a Director General at Yemen’s Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, as stating.

She said the aid would help meet funding shortfalls in Yemen’s Five Year Plan (2006-2010)
