Muscat: Celebrity chef Antony Worrall Thompson will support Unicef's Famine Children's Appeal by hosting a charity Masterchef event to be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Muscat, on Thursday.

The event, called "Feed the World", will be the first of its kind in Muscat and brings together some of the country's top CEOs and key business figures in a cooking contest where they will compete against each other under the expert supervision of Antony Worrall Thompson.

"Feed the World", whose sponsors include Oman Air, Renaissance Services, MB Petroleum Services and Daud Holdings, aims to raise 15,000 Omani riyals (Dh143,271) during the evening for the charity to help the famine victims in Africa.

Misha Daud, who, together with Claire Stirling, is one of the key organisers of the fundraiser, said: "It is our duty to do for others what we can. Turning a blind eye while others die from life's basic necessities is simply not an option."

Antony Worrall Thompson is an award winning celebrity chef, author and television presenter. He is a prolific writer and in addition to numerous cookery books he contributes regularly to recipe columns within the UK press.

Having been diagnosed with Syndrome X, which can lead to diabetes, Thompson is frequently asked to comment on serious food issues such as diabetes, obesity and eating habits in children.
