Muscat: Minister of Labour Dr. Mahad bin Saeed Baouin has announced more opportunities for Omanis, this time in private and higher education institutions, reports Oman News Agency.

The move is expected to provide a much needed fillip in Oman’s localization drive to provide more jobs for citizens. Currently the higher education sector in Oman has many expatriates employed in administrative, teaching and top management positions.

Sheikh Nasr bin Amer Al Hosani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour, stated that the decision stipulates that only Omanis can be employed in all administrative and financial positions, professions related to admission and registration, career guidance, student counselling, student affairs and student services in private higher educational institutions. Al Hosani said that the Ministry of Labour is in cooperation with its partners in this field to enhance investment and empower national cadres.

2040 vision

The joint cooperation between the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation and the Ministry of Labour, along with the universities and private colleges is represented through the Coordinating Committee of Private Higher Education Institutions.

The aforementioned committee comes within the framework of the efforts of Omani government as well as that of educational institutions to achieve Oman 2040 vision.

One of the objectives of the Oman 2040 vision is to create comprehensive higher education, sustainable learning and scientific research to its youth to excel in their academic pursuit.
