Muscat: Hundreds of musicians and animals from around the world performed spectacular routines in the annual Royal Equestrian And Camel festival in Muscat on Saturday.

Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed was among the spectators of the event held at the Maidan Al Fath in Al Wattayah district of Muscat.

The festival began with a traditional show, followed by a display of torches to highlight Oman's 40 years of progress.

Next, a carriage drawn by 40 horses took the stage in a symbolic display of Oman's progress.

Norwegian horses and Omani camels drew carriages in beautiful formations.  A race of Indian bull carts and South African ostriches was also held.

The Indian folk dancers from Kutch region of Western state of Gujarat also took part with their horses and camels. 

A Swiss team displayed ski-joering. The team skied on sands while they reigned their horses.

Then, a display of lighting archers' movement with music started. The display showed the state-of-art techniques used in the festival.

The Anne Kruger show was a comedy of shepherd with horses, goats and the green land rover.

Canon carriage display belonging to the English military history was displayed, Mario Luraschi, of world reputation, and his team showed horses drawing canon carriages similar to the old Roman carriages.  

The display of musical ride by the Royal British Household Cavalry was staged in which 26 musicians of the Royal British Household Cavalry entered the field with their musical riding. 

The Egyptian skirt dance was staged in which 24 Egyptian dancers came from Sharm Al Shaikh to perform skirt dance, which is quite popular in Egypt. 

A group of Spanish riders from Peralta team displayed their enchanting riding skills.

After that, a group of Domec team entered the arena to perform a thrilling show of fighting a mechanical bull.

Then, Angel and Rafael performed Flamenco and Garoche, which are popular in southern parts of Spain.

There were several acts put up by Russian, French and British riders as the chariot race drew big applause from the packed stadium, which was bathed in pyrotechnics of laser lights and colours.
