Muscat: A fire broke out at the Petroleum Development Oman’s (PDO) Yibal-A station on Tuesday, according to a statement put on the government-owned company’s website.

“A fire has occurred last night [Tuesday][ around 2000 hrs at Yibal-A station,” PDO confirmed through the statement on the company website. Yibal is about 300km southwest of Muscat.

The statement further claims that the company immediately mobilised its emergency response services that contained the fire and brought the situation under control.

The incident did not result in injuries.

“PDO staffs are continuing to work to secure the facilities,” the statement further said.

“Meanwhile an investigation is under way to identify the cause of the fire as well as identifying the scale of damage to the facilities such that plans for resumption of operations can be prepared,” the company said.
