Muscat: An African national, who had swallowed 73 capsules of heroin in a bid to smuggle the drugs into Oman, was apprehended by the alert Royal Oman Police (ROP) personnel at the Muscat International Airport last Sunday.
According to the Criminal Investigation Department the suspect was intercepted at the airport on his arrival and rushed to the Royal Oman Police hospital in Qurum area.
Thorough check up of the suspect revealed that he had swallowed the drug, which was flushed out by the hospital staff, said the ROP Public Realtions spokesperson.
The suspect is referred to public prosecutors for investigation in preparation for submission to the justice court.
Last April, ROP had cracked similar modus operandi to smuggle drugs in the country when a Pakistani national had tried to enter at the Muscat International Airport after swallowing narcotics.
