Abu Dhabi: Oman reported 1,518 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Thursday, raising the country's overall infections to 51,725, as the country is experiencing an upward curve.

The newly diagnosed cases include 1,068 Omanis and 450 foreign residents, the Health Ministry said, according to the Omani news agency ONA.

The ministry also announced three new deaths from COVID-19, bringing Oman's total such fatalities to 236.

The country's overall recoveries from the disease have reached 33,021, an increase of 1,016 against the tally reported the day before, the ministry's update showed.

The Health Ministry has done 5,456 new COVID-19 tests, taking the total such tests to 226,637.

On Tuesday, supreme committee in charge of tackling COVID-19 has vowed tougher penalties against violators of precautions to stem the virus spread. The panel has threatened to name and shame violators in the media in an effort to oblige compliance with measures in place to stem the highly contagious disease.
