Cairo: Oman Friday confirmed 1,374 new cases of the novel coronavirus, maintaining an upward trend in the country and taking the overall infections to 43,929.

The latest cases, reported by the Omani news agency ONA, include 13 new ones compared to Thursday when 1,361 infections were registered in the sultanate.

The newly diagnosed cases include 829 Omanis and 535 foreign residents, the Health Ministry said without giving a breakdown of the foreigners' nationalities.

The ministry also reported five new deaths from COVID-19, bringing Oman's total such fatalities to 193.

The country's overall recoveries from the disease have reached 26,169, an increase of 851 against the tally reported the day before.
