Cairo: Oman has confirmed 1,067 new cases of the novel coronavirus, taking to 19,954 the country's overall infections, Health Minister Dr Ahmad Bin Mohammad Al Said reported Thursday.
The minister said the overall deaths from COVID-19 have reached 90, an increase of six over the toll reported the day before.
The country's total recoveries from the disease has reached 6,623, the minister added at a press conference in Muscat.
"You will notice soon a steady increase in the number of recoveries Al Said added, according to the Omani news agency ONA.
The official urged owners of businesses to "shoulder responsibility" in limiting the spread of the ailment. "It has been noticed that one reason for the spread of the disease is the failure of these companies to comply with quarantine rules.
"Coexistence [with the virus] by observing all health guidelines and instructions. Life must go on," he added
Oman has conducted 2,274 coronavirus tests over the past 24 hours, taking to 129,527 the total of tests in the sultanate, according to Dr Al Said.
He added that entry into and exit from the Governorate of Dhofar will be banned. In addition, the port province of Duqm in central-eastern Oman will be sealed off starting from Saturday until July 3 as part of efforts to contain the virus.
