Cairo: Oman has recorded 930 new cases of the novel coronavirus, raising to 16,016 the country's overall infections, the Omani news agency ONA reported Saturday.

The newly diagnosed cases include 239 Omanis and 691 foreign residents, the Health Ministry said without giving a breakdown of foreign patients’ nationalities.

The ministry reported no new deaths from COVID-19, keeping the total of such fatalities at 72.

The country's total recoveries from the disease remained unchanged at 3,451.

There are 67 patients receiving intensive care treatment, the ministry said.

Oman has conducted 2,463 coronavirus tests over the past 24 hours, it added.

Oman has recently tightened preventive precautions, including a ban on large gatherings, to bridle the spread of COVID-19.

Starting from Saturday, the central fruit and vegetables market was completely closed in the capital Muscat as an anti-virus measure.

The closure is in force until further notice, ONA reported, citing the Muscat municipality.
