Cairo: Oman Wednesday recorded 1,679 new cases of the novel coronavirus, taking the country's total infections to 61,247 cases, the Omani news agency ONA reported amid an upward contagion trend.
The newly diagnosed cases include 1,313 Omanis and 366 foreign residents, the Health Ministry said.
The ministry also announced eight more deaths from COVID-19, bringing Oman's total such fatalities to 281.
The country's overall recoveries from the disease have increased by 1,051 to reach a total of 39,038. according to the ministry.
In recent weeks, Oman has seen a spike in virus infections. On Tuesday, a supreme committee in charge of tackling COVID-19 announced keeping the governorate of Dhofar and the state of Masirah closed until further notice as part of preventive measures against the spread of COVID-19.
