Cairo: Oman Saturday registered 1,311 further cases of the novel coronavirus, a decrease of 308 cases against the tally reported the day before.

The latest cases take to 65,504 the country's total infections, the Omani news agency ONA reported, citing the Health Ministry.

The newly diagnosed cases include 1,078 Omanis and 233 foreign residents, the ministry said without providing a breakdown of the non-Omani patients.

The ministry also announced 10 more deaths from COVID-19, bringing Oman's total such fatalities to 308.

The country's overall recoveries from the disease have reached 42,772, according to the ministry.

In recent weeks, Oman has experienced a spike in the virus infections, prompting authorities to tighten preventive measures.

Last week, a supreme committee in charge of tackling COVID-19 announced keeping the governorate of Dhofar and the state of Masirah closed until further notice as part of precautions against the spread of the highly contagious disease.
