Abu Dhabi: Oman recorded 1,327 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Thursday, taking the country's total infections to 62,574 cases, the Omani news agency ONA reported as contagion trend decreased.

The ministry also announced nine more deaths from COVID-19, bringing Oman's total such fatalities to 290.

The country's overall recoveries from the disease have increased by 1,052 to reach a total of 30,090. according to the ministry.

In recent weeks, Oman has seen a spike in infections. On Tuesday, a supreme committee in charge of tackling COVID-19 announced keeping the governorate of Dhofar and the state of Masirah closed until further notice as part of preventive measures against the spread of COVID-19.

According to the National Center for Statistics and Information, eight out of 10 confirmed COVID-19 infections in Oman are men.

The percentage of females reached 20%, with certainty in the Sultanate.

The Ministry of Health surveillance programme said the total number of males infected with COVID-19 in Oman reached 47,397 cases, and females 15,195 cases, as of the time of writing this news.
